today's pictures

it's taking me longer to fall into the long zen of driving...switching from npr to bob marley is helping with that
most of the casino billboards seem to feature women -- always at least one blonde -- with very large mouths. why the large mouths? does that convey "fun" to us monkeys? just seems odd to me.
I'm going to type notes, ideas..lots of typos...and then edit & post 'em later. it some ways I'm wishing I had a voice recorder, but I doubt I'd ever transcribe 'em. text is my thing.
3000 feet, right lane closed ahead and every car speeds up to pass the trucks already slow on the left, leading to the smell of fresh asphalt and men in grubby safety yellows and oranges sitting in the shade by the side of the road. I should've taken a picture, but I'm not worried -- I'll see this scene again.
I remember driving these curvy mountain roads a few years ago in a 24' truck ful of goat parts, listening to the Beatles with my favorite Italian lawyer babe. Jesus, was that really six years ago?
pulled over for speeding a little ways past sparks, apparently caught by aircraft doing 80 in a 70...along with like five other vehicles.
clearly a speed trap. hotter out here, but still relatively green for a desert. near orchard, nv
now my cruise control is set to 69.

passed an explosives truck near nightingale hot springs
whole lot o' nothin' out here. not even radio. luckily, I've got the
2004 radio drama of hgttg.
nearly 8 pm, dark...grabbed a sandwich in Ryndon, 200 miles left to slc, freebird on the radio.
the dark out here is very dark.
passing clive, about an hour left. there are signs qlong the freeway warning about drowsy driving...I'm not there yet, but I'm getting antsy. feels like my limit is probably about 10 hours, which is (not coincidentally) about how long I've been on the road since Oakland,
including stops.
it's all trucks, now...I don't think I've passed more than one or two cars since the casinos just over the nevada border behind me.
looks like all trucks the other direction, too.
the outskirts of slc - grantsville, actually -- smell bad, like rotting seashore maybe, but different. I bet it's worse during the day, baking
in the sun.
come to think of it, it's kinda disappointing to be passing a big blank area that I assume must be THE salt lake...and see nothing.
only 20 miles to my exit, where a...what hotel is it, anyway?...anyway, it awaits.
heh! no internet at
this hotel, but I get good clean wifi signal from another hotel. unfortunately, they require a login and stuff...so, no
actual uploaderating until some time tomorrow.
