pictures from day 3
So after that wonderful morning of introspection and afternoon in Boulder, I got a good night's sleep in the
Hampton Inn in Grand Junction, Colorado, and woke up feeling both refereshed and completely ready to be done with the trip.
I mean,
completely ready. Spending 8-9 hours driving each day was a lot more relaxing than 10-11 hours like I'd done on the trip out, but it was resulting in too many days -- and it looked like there'd be nothing but clouds and probably rain for the rest of the trip anyway. So I did a bit of research, and decided to re-route up US 6 to Salt Lake City and then get back on good ol' reliable boring 80, probably stopping in the middle of Nevada for the night.

That plan worked great, as it turned out. Day 3 of my return was long and cloudy and rainy and very cold, just as expected, but I listened to all but the last chapter of
Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys and pushed through Salt Lake and the rest of Utah and most of Nevada -- all the way to the west side of Reno, where I paid too much for a crappy room at the Boomtown casino at 1 AM.
I woke up around 7:30 AM ready to get moving again, found a Starbucks, and got back on the road -- stopping only at the
Davis Food Co-Op so I'd have something to eat at home.
I was home before 3 PM. I'm still home now. *whew*
I've left
my trip on Yahoo! Travel's Trip Planner reflecting the earlier plan in case I want to refer back to it later.
I was visiting friends in a crummy neighborhood in West Oakland this evening, and some time between 6 and 7:30 somebody broke one of the back windows of my car. They got in, rifled through my stuff (I hadn't entirely finished unpacking after my long trip
