Yesterday I was in downtown Seattle, and got on the wrong bus. Not being in any particular hurry, I decided to see where it took me, and ended up in West Seattle.
After wandering around a bit, I came across a nice-looking sushi restaraunt called Mashiko. I wasn't really in the mood for sushi, but none of the other restaraunts were appealing, so I figured I'd give it a try.
The menu was impressive, even including fish I've never seen in a sushi joint before: flounder, hiramasa, kanpachi, more kinds of tuna than I knew existed, more preparations than I've come across in one place before...it was daunting (especially with just me there), so I chose the omakase option: leaving it up to the chef (also not seen on many menus.)
IT WAS THE BEST SUSHI EVER. Lightly seared albacore toro in a sauce I don't know how to describe. A dynamite roll made with minced clams. Salmon in black bean sauce (sounds simple, but it wasn't.) Ikura donburi (which I didn't like so much, but I could tell it was extremely fresh.) Other stuff, too. Yum. I kinda wish I'd been taking notes in order to report back.
They also gave me a squishy futomaki keyring.
